We woke up this morning to cold temperatures and a light dusting of snow in Montpelier, Vermont. We decided we wanted to head to Burlington, which is only about an hour down the road.

The road to Burlington was surprisingly impressive. I knew there were mountains in this part of the country, but I didn’t realize how dominant the range would be on the horizon. I was having trouble even focusing on my driving for being constantly distracted by the mountains. There were at least a couple prominent peaks, the types of peaks I would’ve expected to see in the Rockies. And although the foliage had already run its course and left most of the deciduous bare, there were evergreens mixed in. The woods were dense and dusted with snow making them look even more dramatic.

We arrived in Burlington late in the afternoon. We parked in downtown near College and Church Streets. I was originally headed to the waterfront to see what that area looked like. Even from miles away we could see Lake Champlain so I knew it would be impressive. But the spot we chose put us a short walking distance away and I didn’t want to waste any more time looking for a parking spot.
Now that we were out of the vehicle we were on Luna’s time, making sure she got all the squats and sniffs she needed after the drive. Almost immediately she caught the scent of a shop she wanted to go into so she oriented herself toward the door and waited for my response. It was a pet store called Houndstooth, so I was more than happy to pop in and let her window shop.
