Burlington, Vermont [2024.11.03]

Nick and Luna looking across Lake Champlain toward the Adirondacks from Burlington, Vermont [2024.11.03].

We’ve finally gotten comfortable enough with downtown Burlington to make overnighting feasible. We slept near the waterfront last night. I had hoped to be up in time for sunrise, which of course came an hour earlier thanks to daylight savings time.

I woke up early enough to get a good view of the Adirondacks across Lake Champlain. Anytime starting around noon and thereafter, the sun is so low in the sky that your eyes are battling the light to be able to see the mountains. And if there’s cloudy weather, well, then you have a whole other set of obstacles.

But this morning was perfect. Perfect. I got up and left Luna sleeping in the truck since it was so cold this morning and she seemed so comfortable. I walked out to the waters edge to get a couple of pictures. Before too long though, I could hear Luna yelping for me. So I made my way back to the truck to bring her with me.

As it was a Sunday, and in keeping with my custom, I sought out a local churches to see if there was a church service that I would be interested in attending. Sunday morning services are usually the best bet when it comes to visiting churches with significant architecture.

I found three that piqued my interest; Saint Joseph Cathedral, Catholic, the Cathedral Church of Saint Paul, and First Unitarian Universalist Church, which is situated at the top of the pedestrian shopping district, Church Street Marketplace,

Since it was before services were scheduled to begin for each of these congregations all of the buildings were open. And since they were all located within walking distance of one another, I was able to visit all three and walk through their respective sanctuaries.
